Custom cabinets, garages and offices in Libertyville
Libertyville is about 21 miles from our Spring Grove shop, roughly half an hour by car. In Libertyville we built office desks and cabinets for a commercial space, and a high-end garage for a car enthusiast. We build kitchens, built-ins, vanities, garage cabinets and commercial casework, and we install them.
The railroad, the 1895 fire and the downtown district
Libertyville grew after the railroad came in the early 1880s, and the village incorporated in 1882, with John Locke as its first president. A fire in 1895 burned much of the downtown, and the village then required new downtown buildings to be brick. The Cook House, built in 1878, is the oldest building in the downtown district; it was deeded to the village in 1920 for use as a library. The architect David Adler left his estate to the village after his death in 1949. The village's first local historic district is downtown, and on April 21, 2025, the Libertyville Downtown Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The village has more than doubled in population since 1960.
Home or business, the job starts from what you have:
- A house near downtown: painted or stained wood doors, trim matched to the house, and profiles reproduced where the old ones are no longer made.
- A house from the 1960s to the 1990s: a new kitchen, built-ins, a basement bar or a garage, in the layout you choose.
- A business: desks, cabinets and casework built to your plans, fabricated only or installed by us.
Libertyville's permit list
Libertyville's General Permit Information page lists "Remodel", "Plumbing Work", "Structural Systems (New or Alteration)" and "Tenant Buildout" under "Work Requiring a Permit," and offers a rule of thumb: "The old saying "if you have to go to the hardware store, you probably need a permit" is a helpful guideline." (Village of Libertyville, as read 2026-10-28; confirm for your address.) Cabinets alone are not named. The village's commercial permit page has its own rows for a tenant buildout and an interior remodel. Ask the Building Division about your plan. We file for the permit when the village asks for one.

Garages, offices and kitchens: planning a Libertyville project
- A garage. Tell us what the garage holds: tools, parts, cleaning gear, the things you want behind doors and the things you want on show. We plan the cabinets and storage around it.
- An office or a business. Desks and cabinets to your plans or your designer's. Tell us early who builds out the space, so we fit the schedule. See for general contractors.
- A kitchen. European-style frameless flat-panel, our specialty, or painted and stained wood doors, framed or inset.
- Drawings. From your architect, designer or builder, priced as given, or through our design package.
- Trim. Nearly every job we do includes the trim around it.

From the visit to the install, for a home or a business
- The visit. It starts with a visit. We measure, we listen, and we give you a straight number. If it works for you, we design it with you, and only then do we build. Libertyville is about half an hour from the shop. Your first visit and consultation are free.
- Drawings. Your architect's, designer's or builder's drawings, priced as given, or our design package, which ends with the final price after one major revision.
- The permit, when the village's list calls for one.
- The build. Roughly 6 to 8 weeks from signed drawings for an average kitchen; built-ins and closets usually 4 to 6.
- Installation. A full kitchen usually takes 1 to 3 days to install; a vanity or a single built-in takes less. For a business, installation is your choice: we install, or we deliver for your crew.

Libertyville questions
Does Libertyville require a permit for new cabinets?
The village lists remodels, plumbing and structural work as permit work and does not name cabinets alone. Ask the Building Division about your plan; we pull a permit ourselves when one is required.
Do you build garage cabinets?
Yes. In Inverness we built large garage cabinets and storage, and in Libertyville we did a high-end garage for a car enthusiast.
Do you build for businesses?
Yes. In Libertyville we built office desks and cabinets for a commercial space. We build casework to your plans, fabricated only or installed.
Do you work in the downtown historic district?
Yes, we take on work there. The village's design review covers the outside of buildings in the district; ask the village what applies to your plans.
