Built-ins

Built-ins that fit the walls you have

We measure your room ourselves, build each piece in our Spring Grove shop, and install it.

Wilmette built-in cabinets and shelving
Crystal Lake home office built-ins

Built in our shop, fitted to your room

We build:

  • bookcases and shelving
  • media walls and entertainment centers
  • home offices
  • window seats and storage benches
  • mudroom benches with cubbies and drawers
  • mantels and fireplace surrounds
  • butler's pantries

Walls are rarely perfectly straight, so we fit each piece to your room: its nooks, its ceiling and its corners, not a stock size. Choose painted or stained wood, or a wood-look veneer. We can match your existing trim, or a profile nobody sells any more.

How it works

It starts with a visit. We measure, we listen, and we give you a straight number. If it works for you, we design it with you, and only then do we build. The design package covers the detailed measuring and the drawings, a 2D layout or 3D renderings or both, and ends with the final price. One major revision is included. Built-ins usually take four to six weeks from signed drawings, sometimes less, depending on the scope. Installing a single built-in takes much less than a kitchen, which runs one to three days.

What drives the price

The size and the number of pieces. The material and the finish. Doors and drawers cost more than open shelves. Want to keep the cost down? More open shelves and fewer drawers help. Hardware matters too: Blum soft-close hinges close doors quietly, and Salice full-extension drawer slides let a drawer open all the way. Lighting prep adds a little: we build the lip that hides the fixtures, and your electrician wires them. So does how much fitting the room needs, such as out-of-square walls or a sloped ceiling. You get a first number at the visit. The final price comes with the drawings.

What people ask about built-ins

Can a media wall hide the TV wiring?

Yes. We build the hidden channels and openings. When the quote lists it, a licensed electrician we coordinate does the wiring.

Can you build around a window?

Yes. We measure around it ourselves and build the piece to fit.

Do I need a contractor?

Not always. Homeowners come to us directly for built-ins; if your project has a contractor or designer, we work from their drawings.

Do I need a permit?

Usually not for a built-in. We pull one when the law requires it.

Is there a warranty?

Yes, a written one-year workmanship warranty from the install date. Hardware carries its maker's own warranty.

Can you add lights to the shelves?

Yes. We build the lip that hides the fixtures and drill the holes for the wires. Your electrician supplies and wires the lights, or a licensed electrician we coordinate does it when the quote lists it.

Can you build a desk into a home office?

Yes. In Kildeer we built a painted library with shelves to the ceiling, cabinets below and a desk with drawers, and in Crystal Lake a home office with a desk and a slat wall. Tell us what the desk has to hold: the screens, the printer, the files.

Will you build just one built-in?

Often, yes. We have no minimum job size, and we look at each request on its own. One bookcase, one window seat or one media wall is work we do.

Family owned. Insured and licensed where required. We build in our own shop and install the work ourselves.

From Spring Grove we work across McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage and Cook counties: the northwest suburbs and Barrington, the North Shore from Evanston and Wilmette to Winnetka, Glencoe and Lake Forest, and the towns in between.
