Barrington Hills

Custom cabinets for Barrington Hills estates and farmhouses

Barrington Hills is about 24 miles from our Spring Grove shop, roughly 35 minutes. We build kitchens, built-ins, mudrooms, closets and vanities for its houses, from century-old farm estates to newer homes on five-acre lots.

Estates, farms and five-acre lots

The village incorporated in 1957 to protect a rural way of life from large subdivisions built on quarter-acre lots, and it has kept a five-acre minimum for new homes since 1963. Before that, Chicago families bought farms here in the late 1800s and early 1900s; some estates still have their round barns. The Riding Club of Barrington Hills has kept trails across private land since 1937, farming and horse raising are allowed, and the village reaches into four counties: Cook, Lake, McHenry and Kane.

What we build for those houses:

  • Mudrooms that work. If boots, coats, riding gear and dogs come in the back door, benches with cubbies, tall lockers and drawers sized for the gear do more than a row of hooks.
  • Kitchens with pantries, where the house has room for a butler's pantry or a pantry wall beside the kitchen.
  • Libraries, bars and family-room built-ins, sized to the room.

Permits and tree rules in Barrington Hills

The village issues its own permits. Its building department page says: "No construction work shall be started without all applicable permits issued and all fees paid." It names no kitchens, cabinets or other interior work. (Village of Barrington Hills, as read 2026-10-28; confirm for your address.) Its tree rules say building permits need a tree preservation plan, so plan any addition or outdoor work early. We confirm with the village whether your job needs a permit, and we pull it ourselves when one is required.

Planning the kitchen and the rooms around it in Barrington Hills

  • More than one of these. Our Barrington Hills work includes a kitchen, a butler's pantry, a dry bar and a wine cellar room. If you want more than one of these, plan them together, so the finishes and the storage work as one.
  • Which rooms share a finish. Decide which rooms should match the kitchen and which can stand apart: a dry bar in the family room, a wine room downstairs.
  • Trees and additions. If the plan includes an addition, the village's heritage-tree rules can shape where it goes. A building permit needs a tree preservation plan.
  • Which county. Barrington Hills reaches into four counties, and the village links a Lake County watershed permit for work in Lake County. It is worth knowing for any outside work.

Pantries, bars and wine rooms for Barrington Hills homes

  • Butler's pantries between the kitchen and the dining room.
  • Dry bars, with glass-front cabinets and wine storage.
  • Wine cellar rooms with wood wine racks, as we built here.
  • Mudrooms with lockers, benches and drawers sized for riding gear.
  • Libraries and paneled studies, with wainscoting or full paneling.
  • Closets and vanities for the bedroom wing.

How a Barrington Hills project runs

  1. The visit. It starts with a visit. We measure, we listen, and we give you a straight number. If it works for you, we design it with you, and only then do we build. The shop is about 35 minutes away; the visit and consultation are free.
  2. Drawings and the final price, through the design package or from your architect's drawings, with one major revision included.
  3. The permit, where the village requires one, filed by us.
  4. The build. Roughly 6 to 8 weeks from signed drawings for an average kitchen; built-ins and closets usually 4 to 6.
  5. Installation, usually 1 to 3 days for a full kitchen, less for a vanity or a single built-in.

Barrington Hills questions

Can you build a mudroom for riding gear?

Yes. Tell us what comes through the door, and we size the lockers, bench and drawers around it.

Do you work on farmhouses and older estate houses?

Yes. We fit the cabinets to the walls as they are and match old trim where it matters.

Can you build a wine cellar?

Yes, as cabinetry and racks fitted to the room. Here in Barrington Hills we built wood wine racks for a wine cellar room. Tell us how many bottles you want to keep.

Can you build a butler's pantry and a dry bar along with the kitchen?

Yes. In Barrington Hills we have built a kitchen, a butler's pantry and a dry bar.

Do you work on both sides of the county lines?

Yes. Barrington Hills reaches into Cook, Lake, McHenry and Kane counties, and we work in all four, and in DuPage.

How long does a job with several rooms take?

Roughly 6 to 8 weeks from signed drawings for an average kitchen; built-ins and closets usually 4 to 6. It varies with detail.

Does the tree ordinance matter for my project?

Ask the village. Its building permits need a tree preservation plan, and heritage trees need a removal permit before they come down. Tell us if the plan adds onto the house or changes the yard.

Family owned. Insured and licensed where required. We build in our own shop and install the work ourselves.
